Beltane is one of the four great fire festivals of the Celtic Wheel of the Year, sitting opposite Samhain on the wheel and marking the midpoint between the spring equinox and the summer solstice.

Long before it was "St Brigid's Cross," that woven shape carried sun-wheel associations — arms radiating from a centre, echoing the wheel of the sun and, the wheel of the year itself.
